WHY CRICKET NEEDS TO GO DOWN

I know cricket is a passion in India, even amongst many of my fans. But not only has the latest IPL scandal shown that there is something rotten in cricket, but unless cricket goes down, other sports in India will never come-up.

Here is a game which is a colonial legacy of the British. It is meant to be played in a cool weather on a green English meadow with a few spectators who shout “jolly good” from time to time, while sipping lemonade. It is not a game meant for a tropical country where you stand for hours under a blistering sun with frenzied fans screaming their approval or displeasure. Cricket has become an obsession in India

But above all, cricket has totally vampirized all the other sports in India. There is so much money that sponsors, televisions and even the Government has concentrated only on cricket at the expense of all the other sports. For the truth is that India is nowhere on the international area of sports and its standard is pathetic if not ridiculous in all sports except for another two British legacies: tennis and hockey. But look at China, in the early eighties it also could not compete in any discipline, bare table tennis, but in a span of thirty years, it has become a sports superpower in all areas, even in some where its does such as swimming.

Why can’t India, the country which gave to the world hata-yoga, which has been copied the world over, or even pranayama which is now spreading like wildfire all over the planet, have a coherent and comprehensive program which would build world-class athletes in two decades?

Because of cricket! And it is so unfair, athletes such as long distance runners will train in miserable conditions, get a pittance as sponsorship and often have to work full or part time in some obscure Government jobs. Compare this to cricketers who are often spoilt brats, who stay in five star hotels, get millions of rupees in sponsorship and advertisement, are often arrogant and. still manage to lose most of the time!

The INDIAN Government should restrict the number of foreign players playing in IPL, so that Indian domestic cricket does not totally die. It should also restrict international matches played by Indian cricketers happening both within and outside India. This will ensure automatically that cricketers get less sponsorship and have to concentrate on home turf. And it should evolve a bold and clear plan for developing other sports, trying as much as possible to bypass bureaucracy who stifle and kill all the good plans (it would maybe make sense to privatize some of the areas such as training). The only will India become a superpower ports. It has the manpower in sports and cricket takes its just place as just another sports where Indian excel.

First of all ..India is still in the ‘Tamas’..’darkened and depressed’ state …as once Sri Aurobindo said Mother India is starving of vital energy …the immense energy that is needed to rejuvenate her.

Cricket is one of the result of this ‘Tamasic’ state
Cricket is the most difficult outdoor game to understand and
Indians are trapped in “resolving” complexities of nature that can be manipulated with less application of energy..so they want to take advantage of this manipulative nature of game for their ‘Tamasic’ mental satisfation
while athletics football are ‘Rajsic’ games needs lot of energy less manipulation..
This ‘Tamasic’ nature is also the reason for India’s large out sourcing and service Industry bcoz , they all r ‘brain applications’, while manufacturing needs energy a lot of courage and vital energy which India is lacking this point of time.

  2. Cricket is super big in India and it is a big problem. You have pointed out many things that are wrong with this equation but what I find is the most interesting of all is that even though cricket is worshiped and BCCI is the richest board and India is the biggest market for cricket, our cricketers are still not athletes or cricket pioneers in any way.
I’ve never liked the Indian team much because I love cricket and as a “cricket team” Indian has always fallen short. We’ve had some immensely talented cricketers over the years and we’ve surfed the wave created by their talent. I’ve always liked South Africa which has always produced proper athletes. And the interesting thing is that in SA cricket is not the biggest game for kids who play rugby and football just as much in schools.
The comment by Niral Soni is interesting and maybe he’s right. We love the one game that is physically not too challenging and we continue to try and keep it that way.
India once had a great way of life defined by the Vedic Culture. It was lost long before others started invading India. It was lost when Vedic culture gave way to Hinduism the religion.
The rest of the world has started realizing the potential behind Yoga and the Vedic spirituality. Hopefully India will too. Because the world needs it. Cricket in India is just a symptom of a bigger problem that the world faces and if we can make people aware of the heritage of Vedic culture then maybe that problem can be solved.

  4. dear mr fancois,
i do not know for whom you have made this appeal.
“WHY CRICKET NEEDS TO GO DOWNI”
this is purely a commericial project , and govt people are part of it.
not even opposition parties have ever done anything to support the indian games.
and indian people with all the big brahmgyan with them are like small children, who is busy in his games.
since the god balances everything. they gave the ultimate spritual knowledge to india , and took their intellect to use it.
it is the design of the god, and no poor indian has to be blamed for it.
this is the planning of the god.
any how , he also sent some angels in your shape to awaken the indians.
but i am sure, we will never awake.
    thanks
